Route Name: 5000 steps - Barranco del Infierno - Val de Laguart

This walk is a "Classic" of the area. The "5000 steps" refers to the 5946 stair-case steps of the Mozarabic trail. Each year at the end of October the villages of the Val de Laguart organise a mass walk along this route, ending with a hearty meal (puchero - type of stew) and souvenir T shirt for having survived the ordeal!

Distance, approximate time and degree of difficulty:
About 7 hours; 14.3km Difficulty fairly high : The path is good most of the way, but there are 4 separate descents and 3 ascents with a cumulative ascent of 845 m, so the walk is very strenuous, particularly in warm weather.
Main features of walk: Spectacular and beautiful views of the Barranco del Infierno while walking along one of the best maintained Mozarabic trails in the area. Sometimes known as "The Cathedral of Hiking"

How to get there by car: From Javea take the N332 and CV 732 to Pedreguer. From Pedreguer take the CV 733 to Benidoleig and Orba. On leaving Orba there is a bit of a dog-leg: Turn Left onto the CV715 signposted Callosa d'en Sarria (also signposted Centro Urba). After about 200m turn Right onto the CV718 signposted Val de Laguart & Fontilles. After climbing out of the valley this road joins the CV 721 which comes in from the right. Continue through Campell to Fleix. Park on the right near a playground, just as the road leaves Fleix and swings to the left (KM10).
