Route Name: El Miserat and the Castell de Gallinera - with variations

This walk climbs 300m to the top of the Foradada ridge of the Val de Gallinera. From there walkers can take one of two moderate tracks which skirt the peak of El Miserat and lead to the Castell de Gallinera, thence back to Benirrama. Alternatively you can climb another 100m or so to the peak (not difficult, but a bit of a slog) to enjoy the panoramic views from the top.

Including the peak, About 6 hours; excluding the peak about 4 hours
Difficulty : Moderate unless you take in the peak (the off-trail ascent is quite strenuous) some of the footpath is Mozarabic. The forestry tracks are poorly maintained in places and rough and skittery underfoot.
Main features of walk: A nice, shaded mozarabic trail up to the top of the Foradada ridge. Cherries in late May early June! Great panoramic views from the top of Miserat and a Castle ruin which looks like a Castle.

How to get there by car: From Javea take the N332 and Pego. From Pego take the CV 700 signposted Cocentaina. After about 3km pass Adsubia and pass through the narrow gorge at the entrance to the Val de Gallinera. After a further 5km note the village of Benirrama up on your left. The turning to Benirrama is a little after the village on the left. Swing upwards through cherry orchards and then right, into the village The road passes to the back of the village where it enters an open square near a water tank. Park here. There is a bar ahead and a cooperativa on the left. Driving time from Javea about 1 hour.
