Historical interest

From the Neolithic to the end of the Iberian cultures, different human populations have taken advantage of the undoubted strategic value of Montgó. This is evidenced by remains in the cave of Montgó's eye (Cova del Tio Gil, one of the two Cova Ampla) and cave paintings in the Barranc del Mig. There are also fortified Iberian ruins near the area "Benimàquia" and near the "Penya de l'Aguila/ Pic de l´Àguila".

Here are some snippets of historical information we have gleaned from the 1990 study about the Montgó: "Parque Natural del Montgó - Estudio Multidisciplinar" - Valencia: Conselleria d'Administració Pública, Agencia del Mediambient. 1990
