Flower stems from 0.5 - 1.4m tall, Slightly branched or simple. Flowers white
with a red-brown mid-vein. Fruits large and spherical. Often found abundantly
covering the hillsides. The roots, dried and boiled in water, yield a mucilaginous
matter that in some countries is mixed with grain or potato to make Asphodel
bread. In Spain and other countries they are used as fodder, especially for
sheep. In Barbary the wild boars eat them greedily.
