Hedera helix - Ivy (Family Araliaceae)
Valenciano: Hedra
Spanish: Yedra
A vine which can reach huge proportions. The normal, growing branches produce
adventitious roots (adventitious: growing in unusual places) and have the familiar
3-lobed palm-shaped leaves. The branches which bear flowers do not have adventitious
roots and their leaves are oval in shape. Leaf extracts are used to counteract
cellulitis. (Plantas Sylvestris de la Comunidad Valenciana)
Flowers: September - October . Because of its late flowering, the fruits of
the ivy form an important part of the diet of diverse birds during the winter
