Juniperus oxycedrus Prickly Juniper (Cypress
Family)
Valenciano: Ginebró
Spanish: Cada, Enebro de la miera
Shrub or small tree with male and female flowers on separate plants. Leaves
needle-shaped and pointed with 2 whitish stripes on the upper side. Cones are
red-brown and berry-like, and (as you would expect!) found only on the female
plant. They ripen in the second year.
Oil of cade (aceite de miera) which is used medicinally for skin complaints,
is obtained from the wood. Flowers from March to May.
