Ophrys apifera - Bee orchid
So-called because of its similarity to a bee. Flower spikes 20-60cm with 4-8
flowers, deep pink to whitish in colour. The brown bee-shaped lip is about
1cm high. The lateral lobes are very hairy. Self-pollinating.
Widely distributed throughout Europe, from the UK to the Mediterranean. Fower
from April to June ("Orquideas Sylvestris de la Comunidad Valenciana")
